CBSE CENTRAL ZONE GIRLS FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
Our school participated in the CBSE Central Zone Under 19 Girls Football Tournament(Delhi Region) held at Army Public School, Shankar Vihar from 12 December 2022 to 15 December 2022. A total of 25 schools participated in the tournament , in which our school won the Silver medal, having reached the Finals of the tournament.
Our school competed against the following teams:

INTACH Heritage Quiz State Round
The 2022 INTACH Heritage Quiz was conducted at the Multipurpose Hall, Kamaladevi Complex of India International Centre, Lodi Road, Delhi. Two teams from our school participated in the competition. One team comprised students from Class 8E- Raghav Chawla and Nitya Dixit, and the other team had students from Class 9A – Rahul Mohan and Khyati Kaushal. The Class 9 Team went on to secure a place in the finals. Our students did exceptionally well in the quizzing rounds and secured the First position out of the 60 participating schools in the Delhi NCR Zone.
The students displayed an impressive depth of knowledge about their heritage and performed exceedingly well.

INTACH Heritage Quiz 2022- National Finals
The winning team comprising Khyati Kaushal and Rahul Mohan of Class 9A not only sailed through the state round, but also represented our school in the National finals of the INTACH Heritage Quiz 2022. Students from 21 states had qualified for the national round, with our school’s team representing Delhi NCR.
The National Rounds of the INTACH Heritage Quiz 2022 were held at the INTACH Headquarters, New Delhi on 21st December 2022.
The event was attended by students, teachers, parents and INTACH members. It was an excellent National Quiz conducted by Cradle Solutions. Mr. Arindam Bhattacharya, Cradle Solutions conducted the quiz with Mr. Shreyas Hariharan and Ms. Swati. Mr. Bhattacharya shared some tips about quizzing and encouraged students to keep learning.
Twenty-one schools from across the country participated in four Semi-finals rounds. Khyati Kaushal and Rahul Mohan of Class 9A qualified for the Grand Finale and did the school proud by winning Fourth Place at the National Level. They were awarded medals of merit and prizes.

The Blade’s Edge- 2021: The Virtual Chef Competition
Our school participated in ‘The Blade’s Edge- 2021’, a Virtual Chef Competition hosted by the GD Goenka School of Hospitality and Tourism, in academic collaboration with Le Cordon Bleu, on 26th June 2021.
Four cooking enthusiasts of our school: Sayanika Biswas of Class XII D, Aditya Nair of Class XII B, Jayesh Sharma of Class XII B, and Tarushi Sharma of Class XII A participated in this Virtual cooking competition. They exhibited their culinary talents very commendably as each of them prepared an innovative main fusion meal with their preferred accompaniment.
Competing against nearly 360 participants ranging from school students to hospitality management trainees, Tarushi Sharma of Class XII A did the school proud when her culinary preparation was lauded by the judges and she was declared the First Runner Up at the competition. She was presented a certificate and gift vouchers from Amul and Nestle.
The event was judged by Chef Neeraj Kataria, Co-Founder/CEO, Kerning Hospitality, Lucknow and Chef Rahul Wali, Founder, R.W Hospitality Services.




The 3rd MK Classic Open International Online Taekwondo Championship 2021 was organised by the Martial Sports Society from 16th to 18th July 2021. The historic
Taekwondo Competition was designed to bring together the Taekwondo enthusiasts of different countries and give them an opportunity to perform and display their diverse Taekwondo skills, despite the pandemic.
A total of twelve countries participated in this event as per the list given below:

The CBSE Central Zone Girls Football Tournament, Under 17 and Under 19, Delhi Region 2019 was hosted by Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave from 21st October 2019 to 25th October 2019.
The opening ceremony was held on 21st October 2019 in the presence of CBSE officials, honourable members of the school management and other guests. The Chief Guest, Mr. Manoj Kumar Srivastava, Director for Professional Examinations, CBSE, Delhi, declared the meet open.
In the opening knockout match in the Under-17 category, Ryan International School, Mayur Vihar defeated Bal Bhavan Public School, MayurVihar by 1-0.
The first match in the Under-19 category was played between Ahlcon Public School, MayurVihar Phase l and Holy Child Senior Secondary School, Tagore Garden. Ahlcon Public School won the tie breaker 5-4.
As the tournament progressed to the next level, teams from different schools from all over Delhi competed against one another with great fervour and enthusiasm.
The first semi-final match in the Under – 17 category was played between Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave and Ahlcon Public School, MayurVihar where Ahlcon Public School won the match by 7-0.
In the second semi-final match, Modern School Vasant Vihar, beat Springdales School, Pusa Road by 3-0 and made their way into the finals.
In the Under 19 category, the first semi-final was played between Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave and St. Mary’s School, Safdarjung Enclave. Our team played exceptionally well to beat their rivals 4-0 to reach the finals.
The second semi- final in this category was played between Sanskriti School, Chanakyapuri and Delhi Public School, R K Puram. It was a close finish for Sanskriti School who won the match by 6-5 in a penalty shootout and made their way into the finals.
The special guests at the Prize Distribution Ceremony held on 25th October 2019 were Mr. Ashok Kumar Dhyanchand, the renowned Olympian hockey player and Mr J K Yadav, Regional Officer, CBSE.
In the Under 17 category, Modern School, Vasant Vihar defeated Ahlcon Public School (2-1 in penalties) to lift the Winner’sTrophy.
In the Under 19 category, Somerville School beat Sanskriti School (1-0) and won the Winner’s Trophy.
By winning the CBSE Girls’ Football Tournament (Delhi Region) 2019 the football teams of Modern School, Vasant Vihar (Under 17 team) and Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave (Under 19 team) have qualified to play at the CBSE Girls’ National Football Tournament 2019 at JBM Global School, NOIDA, from 09 November to 12 November 2019.

The International Institute of Hotel Management held the Zonal Preliminary Round of ‘Young Chef India Schools’ sponsored by the channel, ‘Food Food’on 4th April 2018.Nine students from Class XII were selected to participate.

Students were presented Certificates of Excellence and a memento. Shrishti Singh, Dhavit Kumar, Esha Shrivastava and Aman Singh Ahuja qualified for the next level – Top 30.
Semi Final – Top 30 of Young Chef, India Schools (10th April 2018)
Shrishti Singh, Dhavit Kumar, Esha Shrivastava and Aman Singh Ahuja were selected among Top 30 in the North Zone Semi final round after competing with around 200 shortlisted students from Delhi, Chandigarh, Amritsar and Dehradun.
The Top 30 round held on 10th April 2018 consisted of a Basket Test where they were given an hour to prepare two portions of one main course, with two accompaniments.This round was judged by Chef Sanjay Brown from The Grand, Vasant Kunj, Executive Chef and Chef Shailendra Singh, Executive Chef, Pride Plaza Hotel, Aerocity. This was covered by the channel, ‘Food Food’. Esha Shrivastava qualified for the next level – Top 10.
Zonal Final – Top Ten Round of Young Chef, India Schools (12th April 2018)
Esha Shrivastava competed against the top ten student chefs from the North Zone on 12 April 2018. She made, in 90 minutes, two identically plated starters with appropriate dips and garnishes and two identically plated main course dishes that included a protein-based dish, a rice dish and a lentil dish. This round was judged by Celebrity Chef Shaun Kenworthy, Chef Garima Poddar and Chef Sanjay Kak.
Esha did our school proud by reaching the Top 4 from the North Zone. She was presented a Young Chef Apron, Cap and a Certificate.
All these rounds were filmed by the channel, ‘Food Food’and will be aired in the month of May 2018.

Rising Star of the Skating World
Vanshika Chauhan (Class VII C), a young skating prodigy, has done the school proud by winning several medals at the State and National levels. Her outstanding achievements include the following:

Delhi State Futsal Championship
The Delhi Futsal Association organised the Delhi State Futsal Championship at Dr.B.R Ambedkar College from 07th to 09th July 2017.
The championship was for Under 19 boys and girls and was open for schools and club teams. The girls’ team from Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave played a spectacular series of games and was the Runners up in the State Championship. The girls’ team played seven matches in all and registered four victories against different teams.
Nandita Handoo of Class XI was adjudged the ‘Best Goal Keeper’ of the tournament.
- Match 1 -Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave beat Rosary Club by 2-0.Mandira Bisht was the Player of the Match.
- Match 2 – Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave lost the match against Delhi FC by 1-0

- Match 4 -Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave beat Delhi FC B team by 7-0.Nandita Handoo was the Player of the Match
- Match 5 – In the qualifier match1 Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave lost the match against Delhi FC A by 2-1.
- Match 6 – In the qualifier match 2 Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave beat Delhi FC B by 3-1.Nandita Handoo was the Player of the Match.
- Match 7 – In the final match Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave lost the match against Delhi FC A by 4-2.

Thyrocare Young World Painting Competition
Students from our school participated in the annual ‘Thyrocare Young World Painting Competition’ organised by the newspaper, Hindu. Over 500 students from across the capital participated in the competition which was held at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Gole Market on 7th April 2017. A total of 16 prizes were given away to students from various schools.
In the senior category, Vrinda Gupta of Class VIII D bagged the second position in the Delhi regional competition.
It is a great honour for the school that Vrinda was chosen to represent Delhi at the National Finale held in Chennai on 1st May 2017. Vrinda performed very commendably at this competition and was awarded a certificate of participation and a gift hamper.
SOMERVILLE STUDENTS EXCEL AT ‘YOUNG CHEF INDIA SCHOOLS 2017
The International Institute of Hotel Management, held the City Semi Final Round of ‘Young Chef India Schools’ in association with NDTV Good Times on 28thMarch 2017. Eight students of Class XII after qualifying the preliminary round were selected for the Semi-final round.

Mohita Nerurkar (XII B) was selected among the Top Ten student chefs from the North Zone. She made two similar plates of main course and two accompaniments.This round wasjudged by Celebrity Chef Kunal. Although Mohita did not make it to the National Finals, her hard work and talent was much appreciated. She received the Young Chef Apron, Cap and a Certificate.

Sanskrit Kendriya Pratiyogita Samaroh
The Delhi Sanskrit Academy, Government of Delhi, organised the ‘Sanskrit Kendriya
Pratiyogita Samaroh Sanskrit Speech Competition on 16 February 2017 at the Delhi Sanskrit Academy Auditorium, Karol Bagh.
Aditi Garg of Class IX-A was selected to participate in the State -level competition since she had stood First in the Zonal Sanskrit Speech Competition conducted on
2nd September 2016.
Aditi won the 2nd Prize in the State-level Sanskrit Speech Competition and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1800/-

The LCBM Golden Jubilee Inter-Somerville Volleyball Tournament was held at the Somerville School, Greater Noida from 20thto 21stOctober 2016.

The final match of the tournament was played between Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave and Somerville School, Noida on 21stOctober. The team from Somerville, Vasundhara Enclave played a brilliant game and lifted the LCBM Golden Jubilee Volleyball Tournament Winner’s trophy.
Apurva Chauhan of Class XII B was the Captain of the winning team and Gauri Sharma of Class X A was adjudged the ‘Best Player of tournament’.

Zonal Instrumental (Solo) Competition
The Instrumental (Solo) Competition for schools of Zone-II was organised by the Department of Cultural Activities, Education Department, NCT of Delhi, at Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave, Delhi on 17 August 2016.Thirteen schools from Zone –II participated in the event. The competition was conducted for students in two groups – Senior (IX-XII) and Junior (VI-VIII) and included two categories of instruments: Melody and Percussion.
The panel of judges comprised eminent musicians: Mr.Narender Kumar Toni, Music Director, All India Radio; Mr. Mahesh Prabhakar, Music Director, T-Series Company and Mrs. Sunita Bhardwaj, Programme Executive,All India Radio.
In the keenly contested competitions, all the students performed with commendable ability. Students who achieved First and Second Positions will compete at the District Level competitions.

Felicitation : Sanskrit Department
Three teachers from the Sanskrit Department of our school, Mrs. Madhu Gaur, Mrs. Savita Gupta and Ms. Kriti Malik were felicitated at a ceremony held at Zakir Hussain College on 17th August 2016. The teachers were awarded for successfully training students who won positions of merit in the various competitions organised by the Delhi Sanskrit Academy in the year 2015.
Our School’s Football Heroes

Smriti Chauhan played for the Delhi Schools Under-19 Girls Football Team in the Girls’ Football Championship in February 2016. This championship was organised by the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) in Salem, Tamil Nadu.
In this championship, the Delhi Team played against IPSC Indore Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Dadar and Nagar Haveli and Chhattisgarh. The Delhi Team advanced till the Quarter Finals in this championship.
Smriti Chauhan proved her mettle in this tournament by scoring two goals, one against the IPSC Team, and the other against the team from Dadar and Nagar Haveli.

Shagun Chauhan of Class VI D participated in the Sub-Junior Under-14 Girl Football National Championship 2015. This championship was organised by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) at Barabati International Stadium, Cuttack, Odisha in January 2016.

Aryan Aswal of Class VIII B participated in Sub-Junior Under-14 Boys’ Football North Zone Championship 2015. The Championship was organised by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) in Delhi in January 2016. The Delhi team qualified to play at the National level championships.
