Every year August 6 is observed as Hiroshima Day across the world to mark the atomic bombing of the Japanese cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, during World War II. The atomic bombings of these cities by the United States are the only recorded instances of the use of nuclear weapons during an armed conflict in history.

To mark the anniversary of one of the most devastating events in the history of mankind, it is celebrated as Peace Day all over the world. It’s a day that aims to reduce violence and to strengthen the ideals of peace around the world. Students were enlightened about the significance of Peace Day and the following activities were conducted-

EARTH DAY

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection and to raise awareness about environmental issues.

To make the students aware of the importance of preserving the planet and creating environmental consciousness amongst the children, various activities were conducted in all the classes.

HERITAGE DAY

The International Day for Monuments and Sites also known as World Heritage Day is an international observance held on 18th April each year around the world with different types of activities.

A special assembly on ‘Heritage Day’ was conducted with the message of preservation of our rich culture and world heritage. Students highlighted our heritage and its history, relevance and importance of this day and also how it is celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout the world. Information on the importance of Cultural Heritage and different types of tangible and intangible heritage was conveyed through charts and banners. Students were motivated to visit various Indian monuments such as the Taj Mahal and the Sanchi Stupa during their vacations to learn about our rich heritage and also to spread awareness and carry out cleanliness drives to preserve them.

The assembly was followed by an Inter House Competition: Building a Monument using waste material for students of Classes II to V. There were 4 teams of 8 students each with 2 participants each from Classes II, III, IV and V.

Gandhi House created Taj Mahal using white paper while Tagore House created Sanchi Stupa using ice cream sticks, paper bowls, mud and plastic grass. Akbar House and Ashoka House created Qutub Minar using match boxes, paper cups, newspaper and paper cut outs.

Each team gave a presentation of their model and displayed posters created by them. The result of the competition was as follows:

ANIMAL FEST

An Inter Class Poem Recitation Competition was organized on 9 th October, 2020 for the
students of Class I. The theme of the poem competition was Animals and was aptly
called ‘Animal Fest’. Two students from each class were selected to represent their
section. Each student recited a poem with actions and enthusiasm. Parents of all the
participants were invited to attend the programme. The show was highly appreciated by
the audience and judges.

INTER-CLASS WESTERN MUSIC COMPETITION

DISNEY EUPHONY
An Online Western Music Competition, ‘Disney Euphony’, was organized for the students Class V in the month of October. All students of Class Five were invited to participate in the first round which was the elimination round, where they had to send a video of themselves, performing their favourite Disney song. Those videos were attested by our Judges and top ten students were selected for the final round.
The final round was conducted on Microsoft Teams on 6th October, 2020. The programme began with a word of prayer followed by a welcome. The show was organized in the form of a musical where comperes were playing characters of the story ‘Aladdin’. The Great Genie accidentally switched the souls of Jasmine and Abu and in order to find a cure from this magical spell, they journey across Disneyland in search of The Ten Mighty Musicians, who were the students selected for the final round.
Teachers, parents and students enjoyed the show and the judges appreciated the participants along with their feedback. The result was as follows:

Inter House Skit Competition on Road Safety

An Inter House Skit Competition on Road Safety was organised for the students of Classes IV and V on 10th May, 2019. The students of the four Houses presented interesting skits through which they suggested measures to ensure road safety. They emphasised upon the need to educate people to stay alert and follow traffic rules.

Session 2018-19

Inter House Skit Competition on Disaster Management

Natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, fire outbreaks and cyclones are traumatic experiences that cause huge damage to life and property.To create awareness about such disasters and the ways of responding to them, an Inter House Skit Competition on Disaster Management was organised for the students of Classes III, IV and V on 25th July 2018. The four Houses, through their skits, depicted how awareness, preparedness, alertness, prevention, training and education can help cope with a natural disaster.

Akbar House presented a skit on Fire Outbreak. Through their skit, they showcased the various methods of saving lives at the time of a fire outbreak.

Various preventive measures were suggested by the students of Ashoka House through their very entertaining skit on Earthquakes. Gandhi House depicted how prevention and awareness can save lives during an Earthquake and they also demonstrated the DropCover Hold technique.

The students of Tagore House demonstrated evacuation methods and the ways to limit the effects of Floods through their skit.

It was an educational experience for the audience as they learnt various ways in which disasters can be averted and how losses can be avoided or minimised through alert responses.

Conservation of Petroleum Products and Environment Protection

To sensitize young students about Conservation of Petroleum Products and Environment Protection, which are issues of national concern,the Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) conducted Saksham, National Competition-2018.

An essay writing competition and a painting competition were organized for the students of Classes IV and V on ‘Conservation of Petroleum Products and Environment Protection’ on 19th July and 21st July 2018 respectively.Students participated with great zeal and enthusiasm and expressed their ideas creatively.

Inter House Hindi Recitation Competition

An Inter House Hindi Poem Recitation competition was held on 4th May 2018 for the students of Classes III, IV and V. Each house was represented by a group of 28 to 30 students. The theme of the competition was ‘Aatmakatha’. The students of Ashoka House recited the poem, ‘Maati ke Diye ki Aatmakatha’, followed by the students of Akbar House who enjoyed reciting ‘Rail gaadi ki Aatmakatha’ . The students of Gandhi House recited ‘Paani ki Aatmakatha’ while the students of Tagore House recited ‘Vidyaarthi ki Aatmakatha’.

Children enjoyed reciting the poems with expression, rhythm and voice modulation. They exhibited their talent with confidence. The poems were rhetorical with a message to educate the students. The contestants were judged on the criteria of presentation ,voice modulation and content. The results were as follows:

Math Activity – Working Model Making

A -Working Model Making activity was organised for the students of Classes IV and V on 27th April 2018. The students of class IV made a working model of a clock using Roman numerals. Students of Class V used operations in Roman numerals to depict time.

The activity aimed at application of the math lessons on Roman numerals in a creatively enriching manner.

EARTH DAY

Earth Day was observed on 20th April 2018 by the students of Classes I to V. Students were informed about the importance of Earth Day through myriad activities. Students of Class I made paper headgears depicting the planet Earth. Students of Classes II made hand painted wreaths using waste materials. Students of Classes III and IV made posters showing how they can save Mother Earth. They were also told to write appropriate slogans on their posters. A plantation drive was organised for the students of Class V to sensitise them on the value of tree plantation. The saplings were provided by the school which the students planted in the school garden. These various activities enabled the students to learn to use our natural resources judiciously and help the Earth become pollution free.

WORLD HERITAGE DAY

18th April 2018 is observed as the World Heritage Day. Various activities were conducted for the students of Classes I to V to spread awareness and learn the importance of our cultural heritage and its preservation. Students of Classes I, II and III made collages of historical monuments using waste material. Students of Classes IV and V made posters on ‘Save our Monuments’ using old paper and other waste materials. These activities introduced students to the cultural and architectural heritage of India.

Session 2017-18

INTENSIFIED DIARRHOEA CONTROL FORTNIGHT (IDCF)

To observe the Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) from 01 July 2017 to 14 July 2017, following activities were conducted:

  1. Hands wash Display Activity- Classes I& II on 5.7.17
    Students of Classes I&II were briefed about the symptoms, causes and control of Diarrhoea. Maintaining personal hygiene, especially cleanliness of hands was stressed. Hand washing Technique was displayed in all the sections of Classes I&II. Teachers displayed the correct way to wash hands which takes approximately 40 seconds to a minute. Cleaning all the parts of our hands i.e. the palms, the fingers, the back of the hand and nails was taught. Use of clean water and clean towels was highlighted. The Handwash regime was repeated by the students as well.
  2. Collage & Poster Making- Classes II – V on 6.7.17
    Students made posters and collages and wrote slogans on the topic “Diarrhoea Control” laying stress on personal hygiene, hygiene at home and preventing contamination of food and water.
INTER CLASS MATHS QUIZ

An Inter Class Maths Quiz for Classes I, II and III was held on 24.7.17. There were five teams, each representing a section. Each team had six participants, 2 students from each class and section. The participants were selected after preliminary rounds which were conducted in each class.

AN INTER HOUSE ENGLISH DECLAMATION COMPETITION

An Inter House English Declamation Competition was held for the students of Classes IV and V on 08.05.2017. One student from each class represented their House in the competition.
The topic for the students of Classes IV was ‘Obesity among school-going children is a cause of concern’;
Students of Class V spoke on ‘The internet revolution has many advantages but…’.
The speakers were confident, articulate and presented well-crafted arguments to support their stand on the issues being discussed.

An Inter House Quiz on India was held on 28.4.17 for the students of Classes IV and V.Each house was represented by 4 participants, 2 from Class IV and 2 from Class V.

HEALTH AWARENESS ACTIVITY

A poster making activity was conducted for the students of Classes IV and V on 8th April 2017 to spread awareness about communicable diseases. Through the colourful and informative posters, the students depicted the causes, symptoms and methods of prevention of communicable diseases like dengue, viral fever, chikungunya, chicken pox, etc. Through this activity, the students gathered information about various communicable diseases, vaccines available for such diseases and how to lead a disease-free life by maintaining cleanliness and adopting healthy habits.

FOODS OF INDIA ACTIVITY

Foods of India, an activity based on the diverse cultures and cuisines of India was conducted for the students of Classes I to V on 25th April 2017. Students were asked to bring food items from various states and share it with their friends. It helped them to connect culture with its food and know more about the staple dishes of some states like Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Gujarat, etc. The students relished dishes like chole bhature, idli sambhar, pav bhaji, dhokla, etc. The activity aimed at celebrating diversity with an eclectic food feast.

EARTH DAY

Earth Day was observed by the students on 21st April 2017. The students of Classes I – V made various things like collage, paper weight, book stand and bird feeder using waste material. Students of Class IV planted saplings in the school premises. These activities aimed at sensitizing the students towards the need to protect and preserve our environment.

An Inter Class Techno Shape Competition was held on 10th November 2016 in which one student from each section of Classes I to III participated. They used the ‘shape tool’ of Tux Paint software. Using their imagination and creativity, they made sceneries and designs. They were judged on the basis of creativity, presentation and the number of shape tools used.

The Inter House ‘On the Spot T-shirt Painting Competition’ was held on 23 rd July 2016 for Classes VI, VII and VIII. Six students from each class teamed up to represent their respective Houses. The themes given to the teams were : Angles, Triangles, Perimeter/Area and Mathematical Formulae

3D MODEL MAKING

To encourage practical application of Mathematical concepts and creative expression, a 3D Model Making Activity was conducted on 25.7.16 for the students of Classes IV and V. Each class was divided into groups of 5 to 6 students. The students were judged on mathematical accuracy, creativity and presentation.

The topics were:
Class IV – Garden scene using 3D shapes.
Class V – Township using 3D shapes.
