The English Department organised Intra Class and Inter-House activities during the English Week from 27th October to 31st October 2025 for students of Classes VI to XII. The activities planned during the week aimed to encourage creativity and confidence among learners through a series of classroom activities.
In Class VI, students engaged in the individual activity Living Legends and the group activity Creating a Recipe Booklet.
In Class VII, students explored language creatively through the activity Language Trees and tested their literary knowledge in a Literary Quiz.
In Class VIII, students recited poetry in the individual activity Rhyme Time and collaborated on Creating a Class Magazine.
In Classes IX and X, students designed caricatures of literary characters in the activity Conversation with Characters.
Students of Classes XI and XII took part in an Inter-House Rap Competition. Each house was assigned a celebrated author and had to convert the plot of one of the author’s literary works into an original rap composition. Akbar House presented The Complaints Book by Anton Chekhov, Tagore House explored The Perfect Murder by Jeffrey Archer, Gandhi House depicted The Service of Love by O. Henry, while Ashoka House brought alive The Speckled Band by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle through rhythm and performance.
Tagore House secured the first position, followed by Akbar House in second place and Ashoka House in third place.
The week-long events provided students with a platform to express themselves creatively while developing a deeper appreciation for the English language.
A painting competition was organised for students of Classes VI to XII on 21stAugust 2024, to celebrate National Space Day. The eventaimed at fostering creativity and sparking interest and excitement about the possibilities of space exploration among students.
As part of Science Week celebrations, a group activity titled ‘Science in a Paper Bag’ was conducted for classes VI to VIII from 22.08.2022 to 26.08.2022. Each class was divided into eight groups and each group given a sealed paper bag containing a variety of objects from everyday life. All students participated enthusiastically and created on-the-spot models/games using the given items to exhibit scientific principles and effects, like magnetic properties, Newton’s lawsand simple machines.

To encourage plantation and to contribute towards making our environment clean and green, the Eco Club distributed saplings of native trees of Delhi to parents and students.
A total of 102 saplings were given out on 06.08.2022 and then on 20.08. 2022. Parents appreciated the school’s initiative and also sent back pictures of their wards planting the saplings in their homes, gardens and neighbourhood.
Somerville School celebrated Social Science Activity Week between 18th April 2022 and 23rd April 2022.
The themes of the event and activities were conducted with a view to create awareness and promote critical thinking among the students on issues related to the Environment, our cultural Heritage and Globalisation.
Two activities (One individual and another a group) was conducted at every level (class 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th 10th & 12th)
1.Class VI:The students prepared their class display boards on the topic ‘Unity in Diversity’ as a Group Activity. As the individual activity, students from each section of Class VI made leaf manuscripts using peepal, neem and other leaves.
